Is there a way that I can find out what my Google placement is for a particular keyword?

When I searched, 1.300.000 results were returned and I'm not in the first 50 pages (that's when I got a little discouraged and quit looking).

Thanks!

The only way is to look. What's the domain name and what's the searchterm?

Incidentally, Google only displays up to 1000 results or less, regardless of how many results it found.

You can always use the tool at http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/ to track and maintain a history of your positions for your keywords.

You may want to select search phrases and optimize a different page for that phrase, since that's how most people search. You'll also find you'll get better placement. For example, for "CPE continuing education" you are 3 in alta vista and for "CPE courses" you are 47 in google and 1 in msn.

I tried something like this just this week. I added 3 new pages which each include a short article of about 300 words each and I included a lot (5 - 8%) of my keyword phrase. I'm waiting for Google to do its thing to see how it affects my relevance for those phrases.

But I am nervous about what the new pages and internal links are going to do to my PR. Kind of like flying by the seat of my pants.....

Thanks for your help.

That is a really cool tool. I'm tracking my keyword placement and backlinks and also the backlinks of my competitors to see when they start moving. thanks...

The digitalpoint tool is most excellent! I did not know about that one.

The tool I posted is still handy for checking placement in SEs other than google though.

Not just part of the company that made it... I'm specifically the person that *did* make it (in it's entirety). (glad you like it)

Many thanks to you Shawn. I wasn't sure if you made it, or if it was a group effort from your company. You do some excellent work.

get some links with the word "CPE" between A tags if you really want to get this word higher in google. surely, optimizing for one-word keywords is next to impossible with only on-page SEO (not counting rarely used words and typos). A nice place to start would be getting all efforts on having your site in dmoz.org if it's not already there. become an editor if you want to speed the process up.

that'd get you on the fiirst few pages in a month most certainly.

We think alike. As of a few weeks ago, I am the dmoz editor for my category. I'm just waiting for Google to dance.
