Its not that easy to answer on the spot. You need 20 - 30 seconds to think about some of them.
Google is sure creative

Yes, not only 30 seconds but 40 or more just to have the best answer on their questions.

It does require a lot of thinking alright.
From the questions :

How much should you charge to wash all the windows in Seattle?

Why Seattle?

If you look at a clock and the time is 3:15, what is the angle between the hour and the minute hands? (The answer to this is not zero!)

In the UK they don't ask that type of questions. I know it by experience

The hour hands thing would be 180 degrees I would think, but that might be falling into their trap. edit:nope, I'm an idiot after all - lack of thinking won't help in this kind of question.
@SEOMadrid
yeah, I asked a friend in Google UK and they said they didn't get asked that kind of thing over here. Although they did get asked 'If you could have a superpower, what would it be?'

The fact is for some of these high end company's they don't care if you can get the right answer (after all what does it have to do with the job right).
They are testing how you handle stress and pressure and if you can at least come up with something reasonable.
I read an article about the way Microsoft interviews their prospects and it's very similar.

Peculiar questions, if they also provided the answers at the end of the interview that would have thrown some light on the reasons why they ask these types of vague and open ended questions.
