Will Google just delay the pagerank or pagerank would be extinct for now?

If you cant sell links to pass PR which is what people were doing, getting a PR5 and saying PR5 link $50 a month, then what is the point of PR?

I have another reason for wanting this PR update to happen. I have been working on the same website for the last six month making internal improvements and doing quite a bit of SEO. When I started working on this site it had a PR of 2. Six months of hard work later and it still has a PR of 2. By my best reckoning it should have a PR of between 4 and 6. I am hoping to see PR5 at the next update but would not complain to be at PR4. Granted PR has no effect on our search engine placements and the traffic we are getting is increasing every week - that is not the point! I have no intention of selling links - I have worked hard to get the link juice we have so why on earth would I want to sell any of it?
All of the sites I am competing against are older, ie were established years before mine. When visiting competiors sites they all have higher PR 's on all pages than we do - they shouldnt as we have had more links than them for months and our content is good (granted it can always get better). It simply isnt good for someone in my position to have such a long delay between page rank updates. Sure if your website has been around for years there is no problem, but for newer sites THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM.
Over the last 6 months since the last toolbar pagerank update I have developed another 20 websites, small niechey sites for single product lines or single industries we are targeting. All of these sites still have a PR of ZERO.
If the people browsing my sites have the google toolbar installed with page rank turned on and they see a PR zero displayed in the toolbar is has a negative effect on the impression my site gives off.
GOOGLE HAVE A LOT TO ANSWER FOR, they have way too much power and control over aspects of our business - including our conversion rates. These long delays between updates only help to strengthen the large established websites chokehold over the little guys - like us. The internet is supposed to let everyone battle it out on an even playing field - google is favouring the big guys and more importantly the people who got there first!

How does your site rank for your main key words? That should be the answer to your question if you are making good progress. Don't worry, not many people outside of the SEO community even have the Google page rank tool bar installed anyway.

Actaully, we are ranking well for most of our kewords. Most are stable but some fluctuate by a couple of positions regularily. Our main keyword is a competetive single word and we are ranking in the top 20's for it. Since our site has only been up for a year and some of our competitors 10 years it may take some time to move above them. The ranking we have I have managed to achieve with no budget. Ie: I have not purchased a single link.

October Google Drop Haiku
What does Page Rank mean?
What caused the October drops?
Only Google Knows.
(Another blogger inspired me with her Google haiku contest, and now I can't stop.)

Can Someone explain my strange PR increase?
My home page went from a 2 to a 3 which is what I was hoping for. However, my blog is showing a pr4. My map is showing a pr5, and a number of other pages are pr 4's. I havent even worked much on backlinks on these pages. Is this actually pr or just a glitch before things get straightened out?
(I had a pr of 0 on all my pages except my home page...now I have higher pr on a number of pages compared to my home page)
