I have a theory on this - it's called 'V7N Contextual'.
Google don't like V7N.

Then what's this?

V7N boasts that their Contextual Links system is superior to any other link buying because the links they’re selling are completely “unmarked” and undetectable as paid links to Google or anyone else. The links are also better because they’re one-off payments of $20 per link. Best of all, as “contextual” links, they occur in sentences. V7N says that “For SEO purposes, contextual links are unbeatable.” (IF anybody need the source i'll put it here)
|
But these Links are permanent & one way -- i don't think this is the reason behind this !!

That is V7N admitting to Google, and the rest of the English speaking world, that they are in fact responsible for the trade of links. Irrefutable evidence I would say.
Maybe their publishers links can't be detected, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to realise that V7N are the ones buying links.

if v7n were being manually penalised then they'd not have a PR6 domain.
however the forum being only PR3 is unexplainable in any way other than to say it's being automatically penalised within google's new calculations, similarly to how directory.v7n.com (also PR3) may be being penalised.
As far as I know, it's the selling of links which gets most penalised, as opposed the buying.

Every directory which has an easy navigation, is a great resource to have link on, whether it has PR or not ? That's not a problem at all.

I will second this based on the fact that my blog with lots of buzz based on reviews was destroyed by G..WAs a 3 now we rest on a dismal 1.

Neverthless, pagerank is not such an important factor, especially not for SERP.

Yeah, I agree with you. I lose my interest in Google PR, but I'm crazy about SERPs.
PR drive me nuts, SERP drive me crazy

I wouldn't go that far. Google wouldn't have it as a feature on their toolbar if it was really meaningless. It tells us a lot about how important Google thinks any page is, and things like the dmoz + google directories are ordered according to only PR even if SERPS have endless other factors.
But SERPS do have so many factors, and Google is only half of the industry. If you get blacklisted by Google altogether it's still only 50% down. Other engines might check to see if you're blacklisted by Google before taking you out of their own SERPS, but there's still a lot of money to be made even if you're only coming through one of the big 3 engines.
So I guess PR matters in different amounts to different kinds of websites.
