Google at the Gas Pumps

what else could Google get into?
Here's a strange one...

Quote:
As part of a partnership to be announced Wednesday, the online search leader will dispense driving directions at thousands of gasoline pumps across the United States beginning early next month.

The pumps, made by Gilbarco Veeder-Root, include an Internet connection and will display Google's mapping service in color on a small screen. Motorists will be able to scroll through several categories to find local landmarks, hotels, restaurants and hospitals selected by the gas station's owner.

Makes sense. It's just an extention of Google Maps/Earth.

Man, Google really is becoming the new Microsoft...how long until Google is hated?

Remember when Microsoft was going to put Windows CE into every device? Gas pumps, microwaves, watches, digital picture frames, etc. Microsoft thought that the revenue would come from licensing software.

Google sees software as a free commodity soley used to create a sticky application or experience that holds eyeballs just long enough to display an ad...I know I don't want ads every where, all the time. That's why I'll pass on the Google phone.

So who is Google more similar to--a TV network like NBC or a software/tech company like Microsoft?

For many reasons, Google is already hated. The big fish are always the targets...because they are succeeding.

Google is the only company which stay strong on stock market. I invest a lot with eTrade and all companies i invested money in dropped 3-15% in stock price.
Anyway, i don't want to spend money for Google shares because i think that it is way too overpriced.

Google is certainly becoming a giant on wall street. Even though pretty much every company saw their market caps fall this week, the gap between Google's and Microsoft's market capitalizations is shrinking. As of Friday Google is worth $207 billion and microsoft is worth $315 billion. Of course $100 billion is still quite a bit . To put those number in perspective Yahoo is worth $34 billion and the holding company for ask.com (Ticker symbol IACI and also owner of ticketmaster) is worth $8 billion. Investors are expecting quite a bit from Google.

Expect to see Google continue to further its reach, such as with the addition of Google Maps at the gas pump. That is what wall street is saying anyways.
