Gmail
I found out just now that Google invites people who own a blogger. com blog to test their (beta) email service. I opened an account and it looks like this :

I was really impressed with what I'd heard of Gmail until I read some disturbing stuff regarding Gmail (& Google in general) recently here --> http://www.google-watch.org/ - but maybe some of the content is over-paranoid, a certain amount is based on speculation. Interesting reading though especially if you're a conspiracy theorist.

If you don't like then don't use it. I mean unless you're doing something illegal or terribly important there's nothing to fear.

Yeah, I have been reading those conspiracy things also, but I was curious and have nothing to hide anyway and I'm sure not putting any private information on any server. I guess they still have some work to do to make it all a little more user friendly, right now, for excample, I didn't find an editor for html messages. no colored text and such, but it does receive html email. (did some testing.)

I have not read anything about limitations on files. I guess it's within reason, I'll check it out and will send an mp3 to the account, see what happenes.
just did, 5.39MB mp3 file, sending now.

Try sending a CD image, like Half-life.iso and see what happens.

I'm afraid I don't have any, could you maybe send one? the address is in top of the gmail screenshot. (I don't want to type it here, for obvious reasons)

Btw, when I opened that account you can see there's a zero PR ranking. I just had a look at my inbox again and it has a PR 9/10 now, fast upgrade in a couple of days.

Membership of Google Gmail has some pretty damning privacy, interoperability and third party ramifications, regardless of whether you consider yourself involved in illegal or quasi-illegal activities or not. The statement "if you're not doing anything wrong, there's nothing to fear" really doesn't cover all bases. I would personally avoid this service with a bargepole, even though i have access to it.

It’s amazing what miss information or spin that journalists provide are believed by members of the public. Especially if they are computer related.
