Novice question - what are links as opposed to........

My website held the rank of about no. 31 for a year of so when searching Google for the term "angels". My website page rank has now dropped to 90 or so.

What does Google mean when they say that there are sites that "link to" your website and sites that "contain the term" of your url.

My website, Temple of Angels, has 19 "links", only 8 of which are from external sources (other websites) and 11 of which come from my own website back to my index page.

When I do a search on Google for pages that "contain the term" Temple of Angels, I find 63 entries, all of which are actually links from other sites to mine.

So what does "link" really mean?

Any advice you can provide, would be appreciated.

For reference purposes, the url of my site is:

http://www.mts.net/~warreno/

Best wishes - Greg

A "link" really means a page that has the URL to your site in link format, like so: www.must-have-software.net That is a link, since it's clickable too...

Contain the term means that the term mts.net is on a page, but is not a link - in a directory that does not give a direct link. Your domain is the title or is the title of a link that is redirected. Most directories do this

Sites that link to you are giving you a direct link, a hyperlink to your site. [code:1:982309b763]<a href='http://www.mts.net/">Mts.net</A>[/code:1:982309b763]

Hope that this helps you.

Yup. It's actually somewhere between PR3 and PR4, because sometimes a few PR3's won't show up as backlinks.

Doesn't mean they aren't counted, though.
