I cant seem to find the January thread. There has been a huge algo change over the new year with google now showing much more recent content (in some circumstances).

These new changes dramatically favour frequently updating content (like blogs). Wikipedia has taken a big hit too aparently.

For all u black hats out there u will be pleased to know it is now possible to create a new blog tittled something similar to the name of your competition. Write some text bad mouthing them, add a new article every day, within a week you will now outrank your competition for their own name.

A big thumbs down to google for this one. All I am seeing at the moment is SPAM, SPAM and more SPAM when searching for anything in our nieche.

Well said - PR counts towards SERPS along with all the other variables that G take into their algo ... this nonsense that PR doesn't matter just shows a lack of understanding ...

True & Agreed.

It is possible to get high rankings with NO PR and no rankings with HIGH PR. Its a lot easier to high rankings with PR tho.

I have read about the change in algo too (i think on techcrunch), apparently preference will be given to new content for newly popular search queries.
