What does 'Google' mean?

What does 'Google' mean?

The name 'Google' is a play on the word 'googol,' coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner. A 'googol' refers to the number represented by a 1 followed by 100 zeros. It's a very large number. In fact, there isn't a googol of anything in the universe -- not stars, not dust particles, not atoms. Google's use of the term reflects our mission to organize the world's immense (seemingly infinite) amount of information and make it universally accessible and useful.

Interestingly, a googolplex is a 1 followed by a googol zeros.

And yes, rhyswynne is correct and “Googol” is the math term for the figure 1 followed by a hundred zeros. And I posted an article here with that included within it yesterday, but for some reason, it is now in data heaven. OH, well, I guess the Divine Ms. Chic Geek decided to finally get me back! Its either that or she just misses me and wants my attention. Yeah, probably, that's it because I never call or send her email as there are just too many beautiful women, I mean TOO MUCH WORK TO BE DONE here in Tokyo! Also, the weather in sunny England probably is not helping our "international relationship" very well either. ("D'OH!!!" I just actually revealed our little secret..... Hey I wonder what this 'Post Quick Reply' button is for?)

I don't think that the owner of google named their site after that idea.

In "Google Story". There is interesting story regarding how the word was misspelled.

This statement is incorrect, IMO, as the primary definition of the word "universe" involves supposition.

Hey !!! thanks BSGCORP.
You are the first person from where I got the actual meaning of putting "Google" as a name for search engine". I think you r right b'coz something that you told about Google, is related with search engine.
