How to Recognize "Bad Neighborhood" Sites

I keep hearing about bad neighborhood sites all the time and being the SEO beginner that I am, I want to learn what they are. So my points of discussion are:

• What is a bad neighborhood site?

• How can you recognize a bad neighborhood site when you enter it?

• How to prevent links from bad neighborhood sites?

When choosing to link to a website, do so because you feel it is truly a quality resource for your visitors and the odds are very good that you won't go wrong. If you are linking to a website that is obviously outside the quality guidelines of Google, then you might have reason for concern, but don't worry about sites that are linking to you, as this is outside of your control, only worry about those that YOU are linking to.

Also take a look at the other links on the site. Are they pointing to relevant pages related to the site's topic? General bad neighborhoods (unless your site is in the same industry are:

- adult oriented
- gambling
- some drug sites
- firearms

thats right.. as long as you don't link to some of them you won't get any problem...

I definitely agree.. You can control your outbound links...

though there's always a possibility of having bad neighbors there are some things that you can do to avoid them such as:
staying away from link farms and FFA sites
sex-oriented/porn sites, gambling sites and the like
