Impossible to say without knowing what the site is.
Tell us the url like this: www whatisitcalled com
i.e. not linked up.

First be sure that the site was indeed deleted from the index. Search for [yourdomainname.com] and your site should be on top. If it's not then maybe G banned your site. Sometimes this is just temporary and it will go away after a couple of weeks.

is this a new site? if it is, it can take some time for your site to be in every index, it is quite common to see new sites coming in and going out from the search results initially.
Keep building content and links, you should be seeing your site appearing in a index again and slowly climbing up as more and more work being done on your end.

Try submitting your sitemap in webmaster tools in Google. I can't guarantee anything, but usually whenever I do that, I get Googlebot to my site that same minute and a temporary boost in maybe 2-3 extra indexed pages. That should give you an idea of what's going on, if it works for you.

I just can tell you, Google is really strange company. I had a lot problems with PR on some sites. Do not trust to google, just want to warn you

Mario, you think it's just a temporary change that's gonna be fixed in a matter of a week or so or is this something permanent that OP will have to wait to see a change of during the next PR update?

Yes, domain or site age counts... Surely if you optimized it will show again especially building links for it...
