google makes me confuse
Hi!
Did anyone notice that google doesen't have a consistent ranking position on the serp! I recently checked my rankings and found my site at top 6 which is recently top 1. but after I search again using the keyword I found it on top 1, then click the search box its on top 6 so on . . . same thing happen.
Is google doing something or experimenting a new search result or algo? It makes me confuse . . .

They're always unpredictable... Maybe they're just updating...

Oh boy. That phenomenon is called Google dance, and it happens as the search results are based on information provided by different Google datacenters, which aren't synced up with same standings all the time.
This means when you search now, you can get results from one DC, and few minutes later from another DC, and the results will be slightly different.

I thought Google dance didn't exist anymore and it was something for the archives.
How can you differentiate between Google dances and results given by different data centers which happen on a daily basis anyway?

I am not sure you can. However, if today you range from place 4 to 9 in SERPS for some keywords, most likely you will too tomorrow, so no need to worry.

Ranking Issue..
Most of the time google gives the ranking position which the site deserves but some of the time it may shows the diffrent data center results. Which is diffrent from the your thoughts. But it is not too long and after some time it give the stable results.

Google will sometimes change serp when you refresh the search page....lol
Google is a horrible engine - it's full of spam, so so easy to get placement (too easy), and full of bugs.
It's number one right now with the young crowd, but yahoo and MSN will have their day when people get fed up with google.....lol

Typical Google dance. Happens to our sites often.
Also take into consideration the number of sites that are doing SEO and vying for those keywords, makes sense right

That is one of the most questioned inquiry in the forums, but don't worry, continuous SEO may help you answer your questions.

I would definitely back you on this. MSN is trying its best to be the number one search engine but only time will tell us how they fair in the search engines game.

I always varies. Also it can be that you are seeing different datacenters at different times of the day.

I think so.. lol.. Hey, this is not new.. Man. you shouldn't be surprised when you see some thread like this..
Anyway, this things happens to me.. Actually, I always noticed that updates for some time now. that's the reason why I get different result for the same keywords after a while.. So to full house, if you see some changes in your SERP they are seen "dancing", which explain the name itself..
