Google and the Open Directory Project

I was noticing on one of my optimization programs, it checked to see where my site was indexed on the ODP, when optimizing for Google.

I actually attempted to post their on two occassions. I have not seen my site indexed yet, so I am taking it that it was declined for inclusion in the directory.

Is this a critical measure in website development?

Not critical. Many sites successfully achive top rankings without a listing in the Open Directory Project.

Yeah, but it's really nice to be listed there.

Rub it in Ron

I get the feeling they did not list me because at the time my site was new. Not a trace of activity. I was considering resubmitting, but if its not that important i'll let somemore time pass.

they usually list my inner pages like clockwork but will not list my home page. i am not good enough to be one of about 900 seo firms, but i have one of only two dozen seo newsletters on the whole web. how does that work?

i kinda ticked some of them off with this post on my blog at the end of march
http://www.seobook.com/archives/000261.shtml

(they sent me a ton of referals from resource zone right around when I made that post. they did fix the screw up in my town though. I offered to edit and I know I would have done a good job. their loss, not mine)

Depends on the category also, I had two sites entered quickly and another which has been "awaiting editorial review" for almost a year now. The policy for reviewing and adding sites is terrible.

I think it can give a slight boost for Google rankings. Get a bunch of text links with your keywords and you should be okay.

Hey Ron,

I know, was just showing some humor.
I am going to try and submit a page to do as mentioned above. Cannot hurt right?
