Google crawling and caching

Hi there,

Do you now the connection between Google crawling and caching?

Can I expect sites to be cached everytime they are crawled, or does caching happen less often?

As far as I know the two different function is executed by different robots. The crawler let the "cacher" know when there is something new on plate.

I don't think that there are different bots for crawling and caching the page, a single bot is used for crawling the page, once the page content is fetched, it will generally replace the older page in the cache, even if no change is made in the page.

I have always thought the bots crawl the pages and then cache the information on the pages.

I think it is just one bot. It crawls the page and it just replaces the old version if changes are made to the Google database, but the changes to the cache may take some time to be reflected to the actual search results.

I agree, I think it's one bot. I just think it doesn't caches a page every time it crawls your website. My website is crawled daily, but my cache only updates around every 10 days.

I have a site where I just changed 98% of the page names. It was crawled sometime on the 22sd. I just looked and the old URLS are still listed. I redirected almost all of them so as to keep them indexed.

I will try to update this thread when something changes.

Hi everyone and thanks for the replies. Since I wrote my question, I have also experienced that my sites are crawled more often than the cache is updated.
