Google, Good or Evil?

Companies aren't usually subject to the question of good or evil, but when Google portrays themselves as the benefactor of humankind, I think it's a fair question.

Well, Google has done a great job to the people to find anything on net. And this is Good.

I don't think that I could give a straight answer for this question, but I will put my vote on evil. One thing is sure, Google is not my friend.

Google is good as far as people searching on the net, But i think Google is also evil because of the way it treats webmasters who try to get their sites seen on the net. Tough question really.

and the piles of other stuff they punt out for free.
Hell, just Google Earth and Maps would do it for me. Class kit for free.

Good | Evil - Hmmmmm, one thing I know for sure, unless you know the demographics about each engine you're just wasting time shooting in the dark with seo.

Example: I've noticed a lot of people on this and other boards spend a great deal of time trying to grap a one or two word "keyword" in google (they are over joyed and plaster their accomplishment all over the boards - yet google users tend to do more complex search queries.

So someone's prospective about good and evil depends on how much knowledge they have on the subject.

Good - Evil? Nope, Google is just another wrench in the tool box, it may be a big wrench but it may not be the right one for the job.

They're a business, plain and simple. Before they question whether something is right or wrong, they'll work out how much they can make from it. This will lead them to appear "good" or "evil" depending on where you're standing, but really ethics don't come into it.
