https vs http google serps

I'm currently running my forums on https with a self signed certificate (can't do normal http because my ISP blocks port 80)

Does using https or self signed certificates hurt your google serps in any way?

Normally - if your host has any idea what he's doing hosting on port 8080 or 443 isn't bad.

But what can happen, is a guy that doesn't have a clue will not do the redirect correctly, or not set up the dns correctly.

Find a good iis host or good open source host that knows how to do security (blocking port 80 is a well - cheezy to say the least.

If you already have a site and are afraid of losing your current placement - do a re-direct

if you are worried about the port binding for ssl in iis6 or 7 don't - if you can browse to it a spider can too

Or you're running a home server and your isp blocks it to prevent you from running a server

shame on you.....lol

SSL for a forum? You taking money on the forum? - oh well -

Your isp probably has the search engine spiders blocked (if it is a large ISP).

They been through this hundreds and thousands of times - watch your logs see if a spider comes thru - if it does you're ok for a while (they'll catch you sooner or later - hope you have another ISP in the area.

Googlebot and various other spiders find my https site fine, and they found the http site fine before the ISP blocked 80
