its useless to debate on this one...a site is useless without content and a site will not perform well without backlinks...obviously, those two is a must have for a site.

We know that both are important but I pay much attention to backlinks. Backlinks can increase PR as well as your SERP ranking.

Content has alot to do with the the power of your site witch in turn boost you high in SERP it really doesn't have any backlink requirements.

bizarre that i should see this today was having this exact conversation earlier and said i thought it was about 60% links 40% onsite factors (ish)

Content is a combo between site information, link info, blog info, search info, site partner info, promotion info and so on. Back links are a helpful part of a sites growth, but 2 many webmasters depend on it for content/serp/popularity/traffic, but there is alittle more to the game.
