I do not agree with you. If you do have high PR, you can simply get link exchange with high traffic site. On the other hand, you can get higher offer on the advertiser.

thats what one should be doing Attention should always be on SERP which would ultimately lead to all the benefits we are looking for.

PR does make a difference for SEO, not what you have, but what your backlinks PR looks like. Google still factors in Page Rank for how important they think your backlinks may be.

Until Google and Advertiser come up and say PR does not matter. Then the advertisers will pay you based on PR and Google will give you PR

PageRank Certainly Matters
I skimmed through this post and it looks like sanity has arrived already.
But... I thought I'd share my experience working with high PR sites.
I have a few clients that have PR 7s and 8s and it certainly helps their SEO.
They can pretty much pick keywords at will, create some on page SEOd content, build some links and very quickly rank on the first page of google.
Also, we monitor the ranking of several hundred thousand websites and several million keywords. There's definitely a strong correlation between PageRank and the ability for a site to rank high in the SERPs for their chosen keywords.
All that said, there's not much you can do to increase your PR that a good SEO professional isn't doing already. (ie writing good content and building good links) So, there's no sense worrying about what your PR is.
I like the metaphor above getting laid above. For those with low PR, it's kindof like having a small youknowwhat. There's no sense in worrying about it. It's not going to grow just staring at it. Make do with what you got.

I don't remember when I had signed up with this forum, but had left using forums long back, then don't know how got a email from this forum and here I am.
I used my time to write this post, since I felt like laughing when I read some of the things, like forget Google PR.
2 things I would like to point out, not many care about Alexa, as we don't get hits from Alexa, we get them from Google.
PR though not the most important factor now, but does come into play. The purpose of PR (I know Cricket and others know, but still writing it, so please don't mind) was to see and note which sites are popular and therefore get more backlinks. Though that was misused by people like me, but still it's important. If anyone' follows Matt Cutt's blog, you might have heard about "Trust Rank" its about how old your website is.
There are too many things to consider, but at the end the content on the site matter's the most, since tricks only work for some amount of time.

PR matters like this:
I write an article called "Why Cats Love Milk" and post it on my site.
Then I post the same article on Digg.
The next day I Google "Why Cats Love Milk" and the result is...
The Digg article comes up before the one on my site. Why? Because of page rank.
However, I also have tons of articles that come up in page 1 SERPs just because there is some strange existing keyword combination that just does not exist on any other pages that someone happened to type in - that is when Page Rank is meaningless.
For instance, someone types "cat online community" and I get page one because I have the "Why Cats Love Milk" article and one of my listed recent posts have "online community" in the title on the cat article page. Thats how I get almost all my traffic - accidental keyword combinations resulting in page one results that add up to thousands of hits.

Hey I think thats partially true :p
The post on digg would certainly come up fast because digg has lot more backlinks and its a high traffic website. Well thats just the background. That comes up in search faster because it gets crawled too frequently as compared to your original site.
Page rank is never the cause of anything but its an indicator of popularity as per google page rank algorithm (not search algorithm)
And if you use a keyword combination which is not available on a popular site then certainly you will be on top but it would not come up on top the 2nd day or might come also depending on how often google would crawl your website.
Best Regards

Actually, Danogo gets indexed almost as quick as Digg because we use pinged sitemaps and blog/ping together. Thats the key.
