Google and web site traffic
Hi guys!
I am just wondering if google takes into account web site traffic when ranging web sites?

Actually I don't think they do. Their algorithm is set to find the most relative website for the keyword you search for. Unlike Yahoo, they don't care how old it is. Granted, busier websites often have more backlinks, which is a big deal for SEO.

I think google considers the quality of the link but a small amount on the traffic! but Alexa surely is considering traffic in their rankings!

Sure we can consider the quality of the link, but why Google put the number of visit next to the pages on their index?
You can have the best quality links in the world pointed to your pages, it doesn't mean that people will visit them. This is where algorithm have got their own limit, human being can decide what they want to read.

Everyone and everything keeps up with visitors, what would make Google any different.
Google tracks things they do not tell us about they are tracking. Once they find something they do not like, even it is legal they will penalize you.

Google can't know for sure how much traffic a website gets unless the site is tracked by Google Analytics. For the majority of the sites, Google has no clue on the visitor numbers etc.
If your site comes up at the top of Google, Google can sort of track how long a visitor spend at your site before going back to Google and clicking on the search results above or below your site. If Google consistantly find people spend less time at your site than others, your rankings may drop because Google assumes the longer a visitor stays at your site, the more relevant your site is for the search term.
Google does have ways to collect user feedback. That feedback is a part of their ranking algorithm.

This question turned out to be very interesting, there are many people and many different points of view. But as far as I can see the majority suggests that Google doesn't take into consideration web site traffic for ranking their web sites.

I have a one week old site with no traffic but got indexed right away and reached #3 in some keywords. I don't think they care about traffic!

Indexing the one week old site with no traffic, that's very possible, especially if you put some quality relevant backlinks and your site is pretty much optimized with natural content. Keywords position depends, how popular are those keywords and of course, competition. Indexing is one story, and traffic is another, we shouldn't mix them
Have a great day

I dont think google takes traffic in there algorithum. If it does it means those sites who are heavily spending on PPC would get the natural rankings also beacuse through PPC they are getting high Traffic. All those big companies who has Fat budget on PPC will get the natural rankings.

Return visitors are loyal visitors - Google considet it
Google have different algorithm for ranking. However for sure google will consider the return visitors as a part while giving ranking and the time how long visitors stay on that particular website

How google get the traffic data of my site if I would not install google analytics. I dont think google can access the traffic data of all the sites which hasnt installed google analytics. And from billions of sites how many sites has installed google analytics...i guess not majority of the sites. If google cant access the traffic data of majority of the sites then how come the traffic data is useful in google algorithum.??

I think Google has his own statistic data from your indexed pages on traffic, visit duration, etc...
