Lost Backlinks.. "here backlinks, come here boy"

Hello all,

I usually never ask this type of question but good grief, I've gone from 75-100 backlinks in Google to one.... a link from the BBB. Special.

I have a white hat traditional ecommerce site and I'm adding tons of content and pictures to the products, I just loaded up 20+ articles on a new articles page with quite a bit of content related to my products and other areas to increase my use of important keywords and give my customers some good ideas.

I have 385 inlinks in Yahoo - seeing all the ones I'm expecting to see and 189 in MSN.

Google has indexed 793 pages which is up about 200 from last month.

So what gives? I've been submitting articles to ezine (no duplicate content) and I know the bloggers are just starting to pick me up......

I just dropped in page rank from 4 to ...... 2! Blech. I had several PR 4 interior pages.

Any tips. Should I just continue working and ride it out? Have I irritated the Google gods?

Doesn't look like I've lost in the SERPS but I'm afraid it's coming......

Just need a little hand holding.......

Hi,

Google is going through some weirdness right now but that seems extreme. I assume you are referring to Google backlinks using Webmaster tools. If not, then I would certainly use Webmaster tools for some hints about your site. (Google shows a lot more backlinks for sites in GWT as opposed to the link command on google.com)

Hi ... same story, with me. Since 1 February, when I had 11,300+ links to 131 pages on my site, I've fallen to 5 links to 4 pages. SERPs, PR and traffic consistent, on all pages, though. Like you, I have no idea and get few answers when I ask on forums. I built the links, progressively, over about 18 months; some of my links date to 20 July 2006, just after the site launched. Maybe just a glitch; hope so. google is apparently re-jigging some of it's services and adding new ones. Maybe we just fell through the cracks. Keep us posted on what happens to your sites. Thanks for the tips and encouragement. Yep, I've checked GWT - it's all just a bit of a puzzle. I guess I'll just put my head down and keep doing what I've been doing.

I thought perhaps it was unfavorable ranking due to advances made by competition but I haven't seen that - perhaps I've fallen behind, though.

I'll let you all know if I see something suddenly change

Add me to the list. When my company name was searched, I use to get 15,000, then it dropped to 9,000 then one day it dropped to under 1,000!!!! Anyway, it went back up to 7,000 now, hehe.

I really don't care where I rank, but I need to know what is talked about when I do a search for my company name.

The only more / less correct count will show up in GWT
If you use browser's data, it may come from different Data Centers thus showing different results
