Google announces Friend Connect

Recently, Google announce a preview release of Google Friend Connect, a service that helps website owners grow traffic by enabling any site on the web to easily provide social features for its visitors.

Visitors to any site using Google Friend Connect will be able to see, invite, and interact with new friends, or, using secure authorization APIs, with existing friends from social sites on the web, including Facebook, Google Talk, hi5, orkut, Plaxo, and more.

Hmm, I know the whole 'social network' thing is the way of the future, but I don't think many sites will drastically benefit from it.

I'm usually wrong about new trends so we'll see.

I like the idea, but not exactly sure how it will fit into a lot of websites. I see it being valuable for niche blogs and that type of market, but not ecommerce.

You will be able to put javascript code on your website to make it social.
