How much weight does google place with the weight of a URL, does it search it for keywords and place it higher accordingly with that?

the biggest effect of URL is on the inbound links they inspire. a keyword rich domain name will make it easier to get strong keyword rich inbound links.

it is believed that URL can help some, but to what extent is unsure (probably not directly as important as anchor text or page title). anyone who has an optimized url has usually also done other types of optimization.

I hope it does some good otherwise the url i just bought in my sig is worthless because nobody will ever remember it.
