Any idea what i'm doing wrong?

Hi
Bit puzzled as to why my site www.smarttones.co.uk is ranking so badly for our main term Prank Calls.

Site is over 3 months old
Has PR5
Has 38 backlinks(103 on yahoo) – half of which are from PR5/PR6 sites all using Prank Calls as the anchor text
Have optimised( the best i can) the html

Yet we only rank about 140th
Looking at the backlinks and on page optimisation of the competition i would of thought we should make top 20 no problem. Some sites, have less PR, only 3 or 4 backlinks(20 or so on yahoo) yet still out rank us.

Any idea what i am doing wrong?

you need more backlinks

You nee to place the term in your header tags - instead of saying "Your mobile has been stolen!", say"Prank Call #1 - Your mobile has been stolen!", or just say "Prank Call #1"

So you would have <H1>Prank Calls #1</H1> <H2>Your mobile has been stolen!</H2>

Do that for each prank call.

That should make your ranking improve.

How new are the links? Especially the higher PR links?

Give it time, google sometimes takes time to give sites high PR. Just keep getting backlinks, and wait. Google will pick up on it.

Yeah, exactly... that's why I was asking the age of the links... because just with this past updates, only now am I seeing backlinks show up that I got several months ago...

I've had my site for almost a year now. I finally got a PR7. Just keep getting links!

Very good information. I had not heard that before. That may explain my lack luster PR and back links from the last update. I have a relatively new site and have lots of new back links.

Yup...Only worry is PR is exponential.. Its very difficult to move from PR6 to PR7. Bravo Pimpen!
