Post Never Bother About Page Rank

You should never bother about your page rank because Google will never show constant PR for your site. It would be changing and may be it would never cross 5th rank. Because Google always want new content on every website means you have to upgrade daily.

Your focus should be on backlinks, link structure site, and contents, then Google will decide to change your PR status.

I am not a fan of PR, because SERP is more important then anything, but I can understand that any site need a PR recognition.

I think google changed its algorithm and it started taking the quality of back links seriously

Do the outbound links influence your pagerank? Do you suggest that we put always rel="nofollow" in every ad we have on our websites to keep our PR intact?
IMO... Yes and maybe.

PR will not go down if you link to many relevant, legitimate websites.

PR will go down if you link to bad neighborhoods, the linking looks funny (like you're part of a link farm), or if it looks like you're selling links.

I would nofollow any link that isn't the same topic as your website. But you should have some leeway, since many legitimate sites will have a small number of links to pretty unrelated websites. e.g. e-commerce links, widget links, etc.

Regarding PR... I believe that PR is delayed and only updated incrementally. You can see a site shoot up from PR0 to PR7, yet its SERP stays about the same.

The underlying PR likely varies continuously, while Google does not update PR continuously.

Phil what method are you using to check for backlinks? Any chance you have the site attached to Google's Webmaster Tools?

Yes I did.
It reports over 1900 external links ---- most of those have a minimum pagerank of 3, some higher.

Yeah, it's true. But, you can use the pagerank in adsense. Why? Read this thread.

After looking at your site I'd recommend looking close at your site structure. The navigation is a bit of and I am seeing pages in Googles index that may not be needed i.e. your sports directory?

Dowload and run Link Sleuth on your site. It will show you the broken links on the site and where they are being linked from in your pages. Possibly the best place to start for now. Fixing the URLS consider using a 404 page or 301 redirect.

Let me know if you get anywhere with that or have questions.

Please elaborate on my navigation. I'm open to try something else.
Oh, I dropped the directory about a month ago. It was more trouble than it was worth.
I'll check out that link sleuth right now.
