Google Prostitute
I have a friend who got a site proxyTuts.com. When he searches for proxytuts in Google see what he get as a suggested spelling http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...ts&btnG=Search
Did you mean: prostitutes
Any idea how we can get rid of that prostitute?

Seems like lot of people from non-us locations cannot see it, so here is a screenshot of this prostitute

I don't know that there's much that anybody can do about it. Google is doing some sort of a pattern match between the search terms and words that can be found in the dictionary. Apparently, the term 'proxytuts' is similar enough to the word 'prostitutes' that it's triggering the spelling suggestion.

I had the same type of thing happen. I was very aggravated about it, but after a while and people searching on my domain name, they stopped doing it. Have people you know search on the domain name and then click you link.

Best answer I could give you is get more links in to the original site and eventually Google should recognise it as it's own entity and stop making the suggestion. Seems to happen when it doesn't have a stack of pages to show regarding the original term.

Update: my friend talked to Google, they said they can't do anything on this, its done by Google algorithms automatically. But they suggested if the site gets more then 500 indexed pages.
So I guess he is stuck with the "prostitutes" for a while.

That's the wise dictionary of Google which suggests words which are nearly similar to a non-dictionary word that is searched.
As the word proxytut is not a dictionary word, there is a similar word suggested by Google and we can't change or remove that.

Hello,
The one thing you can do is "report" them and tell them how badly it is affecting your "branding" and "marketing" efforts. There are other painful methods but I wouldn't suggest them.
About Google's ranking and understanding criteria, here is an excerpt from official blog:
Quote:
...When we talk about queries at Google, we use square brackets [ ] to mark the beginning and end of queries (see "How to write queries" by Matt Cutts), a notation I will use throughout this post. (Pages and search results change frequently, so in time, some examples used here may not behave as explained.)
- Understanding queries: It is critical that we understand what our users are looking for (beyond just the few words in their query). We have made several notable advances in this area including a best-in-class spelling suggestion system, an advanced synonyms system, and a very strong concept analysis system.
Most users have used our spelling suggestion system at one time or another. It knows that someone searching for [kofee annan] is really searching for Mr. Kofi Annan, and is prompted: Did you mean: kofi annan; whereas someone searching for [kofee beans] is actually looking for coffee beans. Doing this internationally with very high accuracy is hard, and we do it well.

I can't get all the text here so here is the original post, extremely informative and interesting.
Thank you,

Maybe try using this to your advantage by putting some Diggs and such in. Or make a blog post on your own blog, and then Digg that.

Don't worry. Once more people start searching for that term and click on his website, Google will stop. However, prostitute is an extremely popular search term so it will take some time.

Please don't panic..... no body is searching for "proxyTuts". Its not a highly searched term. Yes the "other" term would be, but it does not return your results. So if it ain't broken, don't fix it.
Thnx
