The One-and-Only Google Update Thread (September 2008)

Anyone know what's going on here? My site was updated to a PR2 from a PR1 at the last update. Now for 2 days my site shows up in the toolbar as a PR1 again only few days after the update. Nothing much changed on my site and backlinks increased. I also noticed on a few sites I don't own, that their PR reverted back to their old PR rank just like my site. Is there something wrong with their PR toolbar or something?

Well, once again another pagerank update and once again I'm still at zero.
This has really been a major point of frustration. Last year at this time I was a PR 3. Earlier this year I dropped to a zero and haven't recovered yet. I have no idea why. My traffic is as good ever and I rank very high for my targeted keywords.
Oh well. Maybe next update.

Why is it frustrating when your traffic and keyword positions is good? I'd concentrate on getting more traffic than wasting time on Google's PageRank bar unless you are making money it.

Well I am [was] making money from my site.
I know Google page rank is nothing but hype and the bottom line is it's over rated.
But then again if it's so over rated, why do we have a sticky thread dedicated to page rank updates? We do we put so much emphasis on it but turn around and in the same breath say it just doesn't matter. We brag on our rank if it's a 5 or higher or get excited when it jumps up.
It's one of the first things advertisers on my site look for.
Obviously, there's a reason for it and a reason we strive for it --- as much as we claim it's just not important.
All I'm saying is I used to be a 3 (actually it was 4 before that) and now it's a zero. It's been a zero for the last 4 updates and I'd like to know why.

It's just frustrating because I've done many things to fix the problem with no positive results.
And yes, I still believe it's a Problem. Something doesn't drop 3 levels without a it being a problem.
Anyway, I'll stop because this is a thread about the recent Page rank update, not my problems with it.

I would assume that its because a hyped topic and so many people start the same threads over & over so having the sticky keeps the forum more clean. Plus it can always make good discussion.

Part of the problem is putting so much emphasis on it. PageRank does matter to an extent but I've found ignoring it is a lot better for my mental health and my visitors.

Buying/Selling links for PageRank is a huge market and most likely always will be. As long as people continue to place a huge importance in PageRank there will always be someone there to sell it.

I've noticed that some of my inner pages have gained some PR recently. (or i didn't notice them until now, which is unlikely.)

Nothing looks like google is going to "dance" again so early. Some weeks ago so many sites loosed their PR...so no chance so earlier....hope so

Yes I have seen a similar thing in two of my sites. I think "Unranked" means not discovered by google yet and once the site is discovered it defaults. to pr 0
