PR is a joke!

Well it seems my site's backlinks jumped up recently and my site appears much higher in the SERP's for targeted keywords, yet my PR just droped from a 5 to a 3 today. Explain this. Google's PR is a joke.

Yes it is joke and I agree with you.

Not only PR but also the SERP is a joke.

Was number 1 first page on many keywords for a long time and now pages are nowhere, what a joke. Yahoo show very stable positions compared to Google since the new July algo.

I don't, the PR change made me laugh, because traffic increased from rises in SERP's.

Good, PR really is nothing more than a selling point if you sell links. Just like Alexa and whatever else people use to throw some numbers at potential link buyers.

The page rank on one of my sites went up a while back

but the traffic went down

I don't think page rank really means much

I saw people are serious about PR more than anything else. I dont know how much it is important but still that one single green bar is a big target to achieve. I have no intention to point anyone out here.

Well, I used to worry too much about getting high PR for my blog. It took some time to understand about PR which is a mystery....

Its not JUST number for selling something.

Alexa's ranking shows more or less the visitors a site receive. Its not 100% accurate, but it gives an idea.

PR was away to show a site if their pages were up to (whatever) standards.
The problem is:
The general public doesn't care what your PR are, if your pages are correct or anything else.
All they want to know is: what cool stuff you have, what pics do you got or what is free that I can rip off.

Porn sites have the worst PR out there and are the leading group of views per day. So it's obvious PR means nothing in the buisness word.

(or) "my site has a high PR but nobody looks at it" LOL

I think PR is definitely a JOKE and it's not a mirror of the traffic rank. I know many PR6 sites where the number of daily visiting is about 300 - 400 unique hits.

PR dont measure traffic and its not intented too. It just measure the probability to get to some site if you navigate doing random clicks. Yes, believe this is the mathematical explanation.

In other words, it measure how many incoming links point to a site and measure the relevance for each link according to how many incoming links has the site that point to your site.

I must agree. Saw one of my handled sites that has a PR3 with no backlinks at all in Google. I don't know if it's the toolbar. But I have checked it on other tools online and compared the results. They're all PR3. How come a site with no backlinks has a PR? Oh Google!!!

I have been discussing and stressing alot on this so called Google "Page Rank" issue. Below is an extract from "official" Google source (mentioned at the bottom) which should refute mis-conceptions.

PR will take you nowhere. Concentrate on getting links from quality and relevant sites with proper anchor that will automatically boost your search engine rankings (Increase in Traffic) as well as your PR.

I think that PR importance is not that high, even a PR0 site can rank number 1 in SERP and we all know that! so it is better to focus more link building and promotions to gain more traffic!
