Yeah but how many webistes are actually competing for "search marketing" search term? Maybe 10, 20 tops.
Even more important, how many people look for this on a daily basis.
My guess is no more that 20.

indeed i r top 10 for search engine marketing. i still need to fix that site up. it has been in a state of repair for about 4 months
all of the overture #s are absurdly inflated due to bid management, rank checking software, and ego driven searches.
even listing at #5 for "search engine marketing" only brings about 5 visitors a day.

Really? I had read that the actual search numbers on Google were much higher.

well google may power a ton of search results, but a ton of automated bots cause fake searches through the overture network and inflate their numbers. especially for terms such as "search engine marketing"

if there is anyone here that is a waste of time it is you. end result is you should be informed before you try to give incorrect information to a ton of people.
the inaccuracy of your statements and willingness to provide incorrect information is more than meets the eye

But my "incorrect information" is fact. Google does place priority on Google Directory listings.
Be denying this you are misleading people.

one guy who read one of my sites and disagreed with a statement sent me an email by the subject of "false facts and fiction." I think this title would fit your posts rather well.
untill you provide any sort of adequate proof of what you are talking about you will be filed away in my mind and the minds of many others reading this under the "false facts and fiction" category.

when I provide proof you claim its "out of date" with no proof of this out of date claim. Google has officially said it has cleaned its index up by removing categories from search results but that the search results still work exactly as before placing emphasis on Google Directory listings.
Provide proof that Google doesnt place priority on Google Directory then without resorting to narrow unpopular search results that no one cares about like search marketing.
Popular terms like website promotion or search engine optimization feature Google Directory listings first and the official description of how google works explains its preference to Google Directory listings.

Wozza, think about it. "Generally" sites that are listed in the ODP are listed there for a reason, because they are quality sites. And quality sites again, "generally"are listed high in the SERPs because they are quality, SEO'd and well marketed sites. They are not high in the SERPs because of ONE link from ONE directory. That just goes against the whole foundation of Google and search engines in general.

have you also thought for a second that this is the way the Google finds out which sites are viewed as offering the most revelant quality content per classification and therefore ranks them first?

P.S. Sites that have been around a while seem to rank better in google, and they also have a better probability of being listed in the ODP and especially the google directory on account of having been around longer.

I think search engine marketing is a rather competitive term and my home page isn't listed in the OPD / Google Directory. I am in the top 10 there and before you say I rent tons of links almost every single link into that site is absolutely free.
I sponsor one site and have that site listed in only 2 directories that charge any recurring fees. Its home page is not listed in Yahoo! or DMOZ.
