I like to keep my hand in photoshop mainly for logos and sometimes i use Corel Draw to text only logos, plus corel draw is great to work with making signs with cutting plugin.
So my main choice would be photoshop.

Both Corel Draw and Illustrator.
They both function the same, although Corel draw has easier to use features, that would take a begginer ages to learn in Illustrator.
I use illustrator though

Most of the web designers prefer Adobe Illustrator due to its simplicity. But cost wise, it is not cheaper.

I've always had good results with Xara Xtreme or Xtreme Pro when working in vectors. Price is $89, $249. Very capable software.

I agree, Illustrator is the way to go when it comes to Vector graphics, be sure to learn the pen tool. All good artists that use illustrator quickly become familiar with the pen tool. Master the pen tool is your goal here, hehe

Just to put it out there, you're not a designer, or a logo designer in fact, if you use Photoshop for your logos. It's the sad truth, you need a professional vector program, something like illustrator, otherwise finished products can't be re-sized by clients and wont be ready for even print or use in any sort of identity package.
Photoshop has the word Photo in it for a reason, sure it's powerful enough to be used in other ways, but in my professional opinion it's best for photo manipulations and cooking up on the fly web based graphics with it. That's all.

Found this review, it's about another Adobe product. It's not as good as illustrator, but it does have some similar features. Plus, it doesn't cost as much. You might want to read the review.
