Clean up a logo
Hi,
I need to clean up this logo.
It was done about 30 years ago, by hand. The smaller the logo, the cleaner it is, but I need to make it bigger than what it is. My cousin would like to keep it as is, but I think it needs to be cleaned up a little.
I've tried to clean it in both Paint and Photoshop 5.5.
Any suggestions will help.
Thanks in advance.
Ellen
(also, I won't be able to answer anyone tonight. I am going to a meeting)

What do you mean by "clean up this logo"? What are you looking to accomplish?

Sorry, I'm not so much of a graphics person. Perhaps the deficiencies are obvious to others.

It needs quite a bit of work actually. Some part also is faded out.
Best would be hiring somebody. There are some good graphics designers here at V7N.

When cleaning the logo up, I'd suggest taking the opportunity and having it vectorized too. This way you'd be able to reproduce it in any size and also use it for various media.

I'm trying to clean the letters up and around it to look cleaner, not as messy.
The flower is ok it can stay the way it is.

I know it needs a lot of work. I will have to ask my cousin if she has the original artwork. I don't think she does. She said that it was done by hand about 30 years ago when she started her business by someone that was a student at the Rhode Island School of Design. She doesn't remember who did it.
I have to talk with her to see if she wants someone to clean it up. I told her it needed to be cleaned up.

I'm not sure if this technique will help -- Photoshop technique will help but as far as I understood your concern, they have some sort of similarities.

well an easy way would be to remake it all, i mean its a "simple design" the font is common and the flower is just a few vectors work, and does it matter if its slightly different then the original one ?

I would cut out the old text and then replace it in photoshop, or what ever program you use. You'd just need to figure out what font that is. Keep the image, it's good. That should clean it up nicely.

I messed around alittle with this logo in Illustrator, because I needed some practice with making vector graphics, and I almost have it done. I can send it to you as an Adobe Illustrator file or as a .svg file if you don't have illustrator. Let me know.

cleaned up
I wanted to experiment with vector graphics in Illustrator, so I "cleaned up" your logo by tracing it with the Pen tool. I'm tried to upload it as an .svg file but it wouldn't let me, but seems to have allowed me to upload an Illustrator (.ai) file. Lets ee if this works.

Oops- this is the file
That last file was not the right one- this is it. This should be helpful for you if you can use it. I tried to keep the hand drawn style. I hope this helps. You will have to add color and all of that.
If you do not have illustrator, you may be able to open it in Photoshop or another vector graphics program like GIMP. If you have trouble, let me know. If you want a good vector graphic tutorial, there is one on tutvid's youtube channel, under "pen tool"
Good Luck!
