Background Removal For Images
Hi,
I am designing a catalog however the photos have a background, for
example the pictures are of shoes but i can see the table the shoe is
sitting on and the background behind the shoe, is there a way to cut
the shoes out in Photoshop so the background is removed?
Thanks

I suggest using the pen tool in PS for a relatively smooth cut and re-size.

If you are not adept with the pen tool or have a lot of pics to do, then I suggest you try the Eraser tools, the Magic Wand Tool, and Extract.

you could also try to use magnetic lasso, works better for me than pen tool.
good luck!

Removing background from images 2
I am finding this too hard, I googled and found some companies that do this sort of thing, has anyone tried them? Is clipping path the same as deepetching. deepetch.com seems to be one good one, I also saw lazymask.com and digital-media-tech.com. Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing. My catalog has over 300 images of jewellery and jackets with fur fitted on manequins due in two weeks, all shot on a blue studio background. Do I require alpha channel masking? Can anyone help please?

You don't need two of these threads so I'm merging your posts Please try and avoid duplicate posting, even if your content is different, you can just add to your other post.
As for reviews of these services, you're likely not going to find anyone here that has used them. We all pretty much know how to do what you want done and have given some good advice in how to do that. If you want to hire someone to do it, post that request in the Services thread.
The pen tool will ultimately be more precise that the magnetic lasso. With the pen tool you are essentially creating a shape around the object you want to keep with control points that you can then move and modify to give the best possible mask. The magnetic lasso tool will never be as precise and you can't make any modifications to it to get a tighter line.
For images shot in front of a chroma key backdrop, you can easily use a color mask.

In photoshop, on the bottom right corner, should be an option to make the background transparent,
thats the best way, you can remove it,
it looks white when you view it with an image editor,
but on the web it looks transparent,
hope that helped,

I don't see that option. I have PS7. Something new to CS maybe?

No.
I think he's talking about the Create a New Layer button in the Layers window. I've never heard of a one click remove background button before. That would be about as useful as the one click 'make art' button. How would it know what the background is?

^ Right. The closest thing I know of to a one click bkg remover is the magic eraser tool, and that of course is limited by the complexity of the bkg.
