How important is graphic design to conversion rate?
Are people more likely to buy from a website with lots of good graphics and such?

Yes I would think so - it's certainly true that a bad design can turn a user off a site very quickly. That's not to say that a badly designed site with outstanding content can't win through.

I have no data to back it up, but I would argue yes.
To me, at least, good graphics establish credibility. If someone/some company puts the effort into their graphics, they probably put a lot more effort into their business as a whole. I would probably view them as a more trustworthy entity as well.

Pretty graphics are good, but the overall look and feel of the site of most importance visually.
I would never buy from a badly designed site.
Having said that, some of my sites need an overhaul

anakha6,
Graphic web design is very important, because images attracts eyes, but more important is sufficient contrast. Web page layout design with graphics, with lights and shadows and bevel and emboss is very appealing.

I agree Images need to stand out; otherwise I unconsciously ignore them :p

I can say with confidence that the quality of your website will determine your conversion rate. These days, websites are looking more professional than ever before and some people have there own standerds regarding trusting a website based on how the site looks.

Solid graphic design on a website absolutely increases your credibility and visitor trust. A well thought out design usually increases 'time on site' which gives you a better chance for a transaction to take place. The only example I can think of as a site that was low or no design elements that is very successful is CraigsList.

I think that Graphics are crucial to your conversions. You have to make your page stand out to your visitor and also you have to make it look professional and comfortable to eye.
If you ask me graphic design of a site directly affects its conversions.

I've never seen any tests or data on this but I would argue yes. I know I wouldn't buy from a site with ugly images - it doesn't show professionalism.

If you have a very nice design it will show that you are serious about your business. For me when i visit a website the first that i recognize is the design before i get interested with the content.
