Talking Transparency for an image

I was wondering how I could have a transparent image for my site. It's just that the image is circular, but whenever i put the image on the net it is always based in a square. To check, I highlight it but it is always highlighted in a square.
I was hoping there's a free utility online.
Is there?

Images are always square, but as Stephen Bradley says make it a gif or a png file and make part of it transparent, and it will appear round

Wich grafics program are you using.

If you are using photoshop you should select 'save for web' in the file menu
there you can choose for GIF and then you should set the transparency option and save

quite easy
