no offense....but when you put that on the site as you have it(with either version) it doesn't look all that good.
#1 personaly if i see a site with nearly solid red i tend to run off screaming into the other room, possibly the only other thing that could draw a response like that is having a midi playing in the background(you are not planning a midi are you?)
#2 it simply doesn't seem to flow with the site. Maybe it is just the large white space you have around the image, but it doesn't seem to flow well at all.
If you do insist on making a solid red page perhaps make the nav bar look slightly different from the rest of it, just to sorta break up the page more. Having one solid color, and only one shade of a solid color, on a page(black and white do not count unless used better than you did) makes the page sort of bland and boring and i believe this is the effect that is coming across. Another thing is if you are wanting to make it fit in better to the page try not to have too much whitespace on either side of it. Also a warning about trying to make it fit into a page, some people never realize it is a nav bar and simply leave your site before ever even trying. I know that sounds stupid and impossible to have someone that stupid to feel that way, but believe me from experience it can and will happen.

Lol, as ling as I'm good its ok! But I think for a nav bar its fine.... since its not that big, but for a header or something else, I agree
