Oh, OK. I think it looks great
(I don't see any differences between the two you posted. Did you change something on the second one?)

Thanks Pimpen ... I want to try to improve it without cluttering it up or making it generally worse ... I'll just have to keep trying different things I guess and ask your opinions ... I'm just learning this stuff and .. I might think something is great when the general concensus might be otherwise ... it's hard for me to tell sometimes ... ..

I think they are really good, and envy the fact that I've been attempting for so long and have never made anything near as good =\

Thank you TeKBuzz, the humility you've shown in this one simple sentence speaks volumes about your character ... hang on to that, you don't have to marry it, just hang on to it and don't ever let it slip away, and "you" will be the one that is envied, even if you are the worst graphic designer on earth.
I'm thinking, the true test is yet to come, which I think is ... .. . can I produce "really good" graphics with any consistency, and in a wide variety of styles? I don't know the answer to this question, but I am willing to learn hard, and work hard, to find out.

I'll be keeping everything you've mentioned in mind while trying to improve it. I'm not sure if it looking like a magazine cutout is a bad thing though, could you elaborate just a bit on that? Thanks for the input AcRoNym ...

the atom on the left with the silver orbs was there when I started ... so I don't know how it was made, all that I did to that is make the part of the ring that covers the red nucleus opaque using the clone tool (it was translucent and looks better opaque).
The softer look of it was one of the reasons I chose it but, maybe I'll make my own sharper version and stick it on there and see how it looks ... I'm going for a certain look here, and I just don't want to go in the wrong direction ... you know? ... Can you do a quick orb to show me an example? I haven't made one myself yet.
