What Size Should Image Be For A Paper Print out

I am designing a flyer that will be printed out on 8.5/11 paper and then laminated.

Shoud I set my size to 8.5 by 11 inches. Might be a stupid question, but I want to make sure I'm getting the max resolution, since I will be printing out color.

Thanks,
Mike

I think you would do that unless you wanted white edge on paper. Dont go by me though I am not into printing but me thinks I am right. Do a test one and make sure.

Are you sending this to a professional printer or using your own printer at home/office?

If you are sending it to a professional printer, I think you should probably ask them what size to make it. If you are printing at home/office you'll have to find out the size of the margins for your printer.

Each printing company has slightly different criteria for the type of printing you are doing and how you should prepare you artwork.

Some require all artowork only in PDF format, some only use quark and others don't really care. I would suggest you contact your print vendor and ask for a specs sheet or artwork criteria sheet. They will be happy to provide this for you. I know most printers can only use CMYK photos/images at a minimum of 300 dpi. RGB color is NOT printable in any printing process. If you are requiring a bleed some printers require you make the artwork 1/4" larger than the finished size.

You will also need to convert all text to line art or provide all the fonts with your artwork. A well known saying in the printing industry is, "Garbage In, Garbage Out!" So make sure you follow your printers criteria to get the best results.

Please critique the attachment... I have to have this done soon... I was going to have kinkos print it and laminate it.. It will be 2 pages laminated.

I need to keep cost down.. so I may even print at home.. I printed it on my hp2500 color laser and it looks pretty good.. I just need some glossy paper.

That's going to be a lot of ink

I don't like how those two fish face the same direction and the bottom text looks like it has too much bevel.

Ok.. My next part of the project is coming from an excel spreadsheet. I am going to do a print screen and then paste the spreadsheet into photoshop. My question is how do I keep the resolution/quality at 100%. I have been opening a new document at 1280x1280.. pasting the spreadsheet and then cropping it. But the numbers look a bit blurry.

Thanks

Hi,

I will suggest you not to use the brown boarder there, it will cost you much more if you're making 8.5x11 in full bleed ...
Pretty much all the printers out there (both pro/con) can't just print 8.5x11 full-bleed, there must be a white margin on all sides.
if you really need the brown boarder then you'll have to put the whole thing onto a 12x18" paper (2-up) and have the side trimmed. and it is quiet pricy especially in kinkos

Now that's what I call nice.

I think I would back off on the glow in the bottom lettering, maybe even down to 1px, and give the two silver fish sharp perimeters (no glowing border).

Nice work.
