Template Monster A Rip Off?

After looking at many templates I found a few and purchased them over at Template Monster. They said they would be sending me the download within 15 minutes after verifying payment. I gave them my credit card number and the number on the back of my card. They sent me an email asking me to scan my drivers license and send it to them. I checked my back account and they already took the amount out. I was not about to send them more personal information. Now, I've refused to send them more info and they have my money. Anyone else been ripped off by them?

I personally have not used them, but a friend of mine did. He purchased a template from them and they proceeded to send him the wrong one. Three weeks later he was still waiting for a response from them, it seemed like once they had his money they couldn't care less.

I am really confused as to why they would want your drivers license details. Was it an adult orientated template? Perhaps they need proof of age.

Thanks to all. Not, adult templates, needed one for a family type portal. The only thing that I can think of is they are either, rip offs or they've been ripped off too many times via credit cards. I did give them the 3 digit security card off the back of my card, but reluctant giving additional personal information (drivers license copy)because I had not dealt with them before. They sent me an email telling me that they gave me a refund. We'll see as it hasn't shown up in my account yet.

You have to be careful... make sure you have a license to use the templates.
If these templates were acquired and distributed without the proper consent or license, you're opening yourself and your company up for legal troubles.

No problems here

I have never had a problem with templatemonster. I can only think that your approval was a nnn or nnm meaning that most credit card companies will tell a merchant if the address and zip code match the credit card, if not then it is up to the company to either honor your card or try to obtain more information to make sure no one is using your credit card illegally. Most companies do this for your protection. You had the option of putting in your telephone number also when ordering from them and then they would call you if there was a problem to verify. But as far as my dealing with them I have never been ripped off and no unauthorized transactions have come out of my account.

Posting their templates

Just my opinion, but people work on those templates and some people feed their children with the money they make off those templates. By telling people how they can get them free (illegally) should be a bannable offense. Just my opinion.

I make my money selling food, but that doesn't mean people don't want it free. Hell, people always want free food, if their meal takes 5 minutes instead of 2 they bitch and want a free something or another. meh.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I dislike templates, they are built out of images which allows for little customization, and it's difficult to update them, also.

Hi,

This is now July 2007, and I believe I was treated unfairly by MonsterTemplate. I bought a template that was supposed to be compatible with Dreamweaver and when I realized it wasn't and wanted a refund, they refused. It was within one day of buying the template. Their chat line was totallly COLD and UNCARING! I don't understand how they keep their business going. There is no way to talk to them live, just via chat.

When I tried to ask them questions, SEAN of template monster would answer half of the question then disconnect without telling me. When I tried to get back on the chat line, they said there were no operators available (even though then advertise 24/7 support). I felt they were purposely doing that because they didn't want to talk with me, I went in anonymously through another way to their chat line and suddenly SEAN answered. When I asked the question again, he again half answered it.

When I asked for the refund, Paul Krokowsky refused it.

I will never deal with this company again!!!

Do you think its even worth money buying templates, when so many easy to user template come with any web design program.

Besides couldnt any technically copy the source code of a site to get a "template"

What is the benefit of buying. We do all our own design and, using something like front page or dreamweaver isnt impossible to learn even for a beginner.

When you buy a template, it's like buying underwear. Once you buy it, you can't send it back.

Consider all the proprietary code and graphics you have just accessed. These template warehouses would go out of business fast if they had any sort of return policy. Those that say they do, will put up a fight more often than not. Even if they're in the wrong.

Buyer beware. Hire a proffesional. Get it done right.
