One shouldn't attempt to create logos in Dreamweaver, but I'm not sure what Dreamviewer is. Photoshop is great for creating a good looking logo, but will probably fall short of creating all the needed file types. Busy corporations often need vector based versions of their logos for various printing projects (i.e. printing on mugs, embroidery on clothing, etc.). The last time I checked, Photoshop was poor at creating vector files. It's okay to design your logo in Photoshop, but only if you design your logo very, very large and then take it to a different software (such as Adobe Illustrator) for a vector rendering. In Illustrator, that raster to vector creation is called a live trace.

Publisher for Logos
Looking to custom design a logo for yourself on the cheap? You may already have Microsoft Publisher on your computer. With Publisher's ability to save your page as jpg, png, or tiff, you can create a passable logo on your own that will work for most raster printing projects. If you're company is successful, you will eventually need to upgrade that effort or hire a professional designer, but a logo made in Publisher can get you started.

The truth of the matter is, they all have their drawbacks. No software is perfect. That being said, several of my clients have used LaughingBird's Software and said they liked it.

I am familiar with all the Microsoft Office software and the Adobe Creative Suite Software. Between those, the best one application for logo design is Adobe Illustrator. This is true because Illustrator has the capability of producing all the file types a business will need, and the others do not. That being said, I rarely use Illustrator because I find it too cumbersome and complicated. If you have the budget, get the entire Adobe Creative Suite, and then you will be prepared for almost any design challenge.

If you are professional, Photoshop is the best case but if you are not, you should use software for designing your logo. You can sue below softwares:
EximiousSoft Logo Designer
Logo Design Studio Pro
Sothink Logo Maker
Or any other software you like.

Would you care to explain your reasoning behind this? To me, (somebody who is not a Graphics Designer), logo's should generally be vector graphics, and Adobe Photoshop doesn't as far as I am aware work well if at all with high-quality vector graphics.
Adobe Illustrator would be my personal preference if I were to work with vector graphics and logo design, as it's a high-end vector design tool which is well known within the industry, supports various formats and has a lot of tools in which to make vector graphics.

So many replies here already! if mine counts, here is what I believe in.
LOGO is required to be on most of the print and publications (including websites and paper prints).
You will need the logo in all sizes based on the requirement. Big size for Flex print - Small size for website logo - medium size for business card prints etc. The graphic if it is available as Vector, you will be able to achieve all these without pixelating the output as per your requirement. Need 300dpi or 72dpi good quality output is required.
Go use Vector based tools like CorelDraw, Illustrator, etc. (you will find many vector tools - even opensource)
Photoshop are Raster based, and it is used for photographs and other image manipulation tool. Of course lot of artists use Photoshop for designing (there is no problem in using this tool), but you have better advantages with Vector based tools.
Even Flash will help you create Vector based logos (export may not be that friendly)
All the best!

the best program to use to design your logo is the one on that you know how to work the best it does not necessarily be a program that some one told you that is good.

Ok you two, if one used Photoshop for a logo how do you enlarge it for a poster? With a vector graphics program (which Photoshop is not) you can.

The best program for logos is a vector graphics program. The one you can use well and does what you need is the best choice.

Vector graphic drawing software is used for creating and editing vector graphics. The image can be changed by editing screen objects which are then saved as modifications to the mathematical formulae. Mathematical operators in the software can be used to stretch, twist, and color component objects in the picture or the whole picture, and these tools are presented to the user intuitively through the graphical user interface of the computer.
