Free Design, got bored!
Hey All,
I got bored at school so I made a design to show some guys from my class what I can do. We thought why not just offer this to the V7N community! Since you all helped me out so much, I thought I would return the offer!
Please if you use this one (it's not coded) then please keep at least 1 of the links on the site (I'd love it if you would use the Koopman Media link though )
Here's the site: Look at the attachment! If you want it, please let me know so I can send you the .psd!

Most people on this forum are designers of some kind and will usually create their own work. People who aren't, like JS for example, will have a team of designers who can do their stuff for them to exactly their specs. That is probably why there's been limited response about the design.
It's not a bad design really, the thing is though, it's the 'advertising' part that makes it visually appealing and that won't even be on the actual template. I don't like the way the first letters are black and the rest and white on the headings on the left hand side. If you wanna do that, go for a grey or something much more similar to white, the contrast is too much there and you have to make an effort to read what it says, albeit not much. The nav bar at the top is a nice colour although the text links in it are probably too small for most people's liking. The main content box, i think it begins too far to the left, it should ideally begin directly under the darker grey box with 'Home > About' in it. This is all my opinion, of course!
Overall, it's definitely a nice start to a design but it doesn't really feel complete yet.

LOL I really like the design a lot. When I design myself, I have a hard time deciding what needs changing, if things look good etc. When I look at other people's designs, I go by instinct. I've also dealt with many clients who were never happy with their design, and wanted changes, changes, changes.
When I see something I like, I say it

True. The thing is, I like styling clients out and always figure that it pays off long term speaking. Well ... not always. Some people just have issues. They have their mind set on something, then they change their mind. Then they don't like it and want to change back. Then they have a brilliant idea and want it implemented. I always prefer the business people who want "whatever works best" over the small store owner who can't wait to show the site to her friend.
Anyways, now I know why I didn't post in the other thread about clients. I could go on and on forever

I know how to design, don't worry about that. This was just a thing I created to show a friend of mine who's new to designing

I have to mention (for anyone passing by thinking this is a really good design) that in addition to above good comments (especially from DB), the body text is too small and line-length seems a bit long. - Increasing the font-size a bit should fix both.

When you ask for a review, you have to be ready to receive negative feeback. Not everyone thinks something is nice. You asked to get a review, and you got it. If you never learn to accept ALL types of advice, you won't get anywhere with designing. Would you tell a client, "Oh well I think it looks great, sorry, I don't want your business...?" I know I wouldn't.
And if no one here wants it, big deal. Not like your career depends on you giving away free designs

Yeah technically he didn't ask for a review of it but still it's common practice to give your opinion is a 'discussion board' anyway. That's what I did and he didn't seem happy Then Lazyjim ruffled his feathers more with a really valid bit of advice!

Asking for comments, just like asking for a review...
