.doc file to vector or EPS- Any Advice?
I have a bit of a situation where a client has emailed me his artwork and it is a .doc file.
The problem is that I need to get it as a vector graphic or eps (all seperates) and I haven't a clue where to begin here.
I can't really mail the client back saying I can't do it as I'll look like a right cowboy (ok, so I am) and this isn't good.
I have dragged it into Open Office and saved it as a pdf which is the file I have placed here.
Any ideas on how to get out of this mess?
File attached below.

To "get it as a vector graphic", it must be re-created using a graphics program with vector capabilities.
I would simply re-create it using the pen tool in PS. If you are good with AI then I would recommend re-creating or tracing it in AI.

Yes, exactly. If he made it in Photoshop, for example, he will have to send it to you in the original .psd file.....which has all of the design's layers. You won't look silly for asking for that format....HE should feel silly for not sending it to you in the correct format in the first place...lol
If you don't have Photoshop, I'm not sure what other programs will open a .psd file. If, indeed, he used Photoshop, I should be able to rip the layers out and save them in a usable format for you..

It was originally sent to me in a word doc
I have saved it as a psd and placed it up here to be viewed.
Basically, I think I'm stuffed unless I find a way of recreating it within a vector based prog.
BTW - I have Photoshop and Illustrator but I am just getting my head around them.

Yeah, that one threw me.
If I was doing it I would just start tracing it w/the pen tool. The hardest part will be the building. I would end up with around half a dozen layers for this graphic ... or maybe a few more. All edges would be clean when done.

I tried tracing the image and pulling out pieces of it...but, unfortunately I couldn't get a clean edge on anything since the image is pixel-y looking.
I can't imagine your client would be offended if you asked for a different format....I've done that before and I've never met with any problems. You could tell him that his image isn't clear enough to use, and you need the original design layers.

Thanks for that Heather,
Deal is it has been given to him in a work doc
Somebody somewhere must have the original but I will have a play with it (the file that is ) and see what I can do.
It is a complete nightmare as it is so pixelated and such a crap image to work with.
Damn clients, who needs them!

The image looks like it's composed of clip art. I was doing a search for "lifeguard towers" and I found some very similar images. I'll bet they took a photo or clip art of some sort and customized it a bit.

If you still need this text, I will upload a zipfile which will contain the .gif without any background
Also, you said you were new to Photoshop.....so, I don't know if you know how to drag images into a design. Gifs are different....you have to go to Image-->Mode--->(then change to)RGB. Then you can drag it into the new design you're working on.
Also....the "tour isle of man 2006" is in Copperplate Gothic BT font

Thank you for all your help
Was that a font you used or did you just remove it from the graphic?

My pleasure
I found the "Baywatch" logo online when I did a search for it, then I just erased the background. Baywatch used to be a popular TV show in the US. (It might still be popular...I have no clue...lol...I never watched it)
I had some time to kill before my son's hockey game...so, I made this....
I had fun trying to recreate it.....hope you can use it.

Thank you so much for your help.
I can see that it would be darn near impossible to achieve in a vector format as there is too many little things going on but what you have done is very good indeed.
You're a star

The client sent it over in a doc file. Whether it was originally in there, I don't know.
What I did was open it in Open Office and save it as a pdf. Having the doc file won't make any difference.
Ricoool dude, the orginal file isn't vector based. Well not the one they sent me anyway.
