Is it natural ability?

Right from the childhood i have no skills of drawing and any attraction towards graphics. But to enhance user experience i also have to take care of web designing with web development. But most tidious thing for me is to design graphics. When i think about it i come up with no idea at all
Is it natural ability to become good graphics designer?

If no then i am interested to learn it where to start the journey?

I don't really have any natural talent as an artist or anything, i can't draw on paper to save my life, but in photoshop and stuff i can try and try different stuff and somehow make stuff come together.

My creative talent is pretty poor, but my ability to draw isn't. This isn't because I was born with it, but because when I see something I like, I draw it. When it doesn't look right, I draw it again and again. Eventually, I will remember how to draw whatever it is without needing to see it (my visual memory is really bad, drawing things helps me to remember) and soon I can start being creative with it.

It can be tough and demoralising when attempting to draw and the initial outcome is awful, but as with anything in life, if you apply yourself you will be able to do it. The question is, is it important enough to you to want to be able to draw? If so, head down to the art shop, buy a sketch book and a 2B pencil and sketch everything you see.

I think it is
50% natural talent + 50% your effort.

Just visit some portfolios and go through their works. Examine their works closely and you can find some new ideas from them.

One of the presuppositions of neuro linguistic programming is that "if one person can do something, anyone can learn to do it".

I agree with designer007 about looking through portfolios, also look at current trends in web design, you will see how much is borrowed from others, and what little creativity is involved in adding some pseudo-individualism to a very common concept (for example, the subtle gradients found on those nice CSS sites)

I think you still have to have an artistic inclination... obviously you get better with practice and the more you do it...but I think you still have to be able to see things like color, shape, shadows, positioning, layout, etc. for something to truly turn out well.

As I mentioned already, get a sketchbook and a pencil and start drawing.

search google for tutorials based around the prohram you are using.

as far as your main question...I believe:
- anyone can design images in a graphics program.
- anyone can apply filters and make things look professionally done.

however, to be able to look at an image and know deep down that something is not right (from a visual art persective) and know what you need to do to improve on it... that comes from somewhere inside you and is not learned.

I for one, am better at art offline then on. I uderstand what I am doing on a computer, but I'd rather be drawing by hand anyday.

Hmm, I have read through all of the answers above here and I guess I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here. Design is my living, I loved art at school, I got terrible art grades most of the time because I didn't sculpt or make things out of bits of coloured tissue paper, I drew/sketched, I drew cartoons, I drew girls in the playground, I drew things I shouldn't have and things I could only imagine ;p but I drew all the time. All that drawing is the basis of my skill today.

I sort of agree that anyone can be tought to draw but I disagree about teaching design, you see, to design you need original thought, not just an ability to copy. This won't stop you creating stunning websites but they won't be original unless you have at least a spark of ability. Aditionally I would say that one of the hardest things for a person with no creative ability is even knowing WHAT to copy!

So there we go, who wants to disagree? lol

I agree with most of it (it's mostly leans toward what I said before)... but a lot of people go to design school with no abality and learn enough to make a very decent living in marketing, design, etc.

I think anyone can be book taught to do anything. Doctors learn... Programmers learn... Designers learn... that's why they have schools for such things

But I agree that a inherited talent makes you better... at this or anything else.

I think it mostly natural but you can be taught.

Ever since I can remember I would always 'deconstruct' anything I saw into simple forms. It always helps me when I design something.

that's a very common practice. I have a buddy that can draw faces freehand without the person being there or looking at photos. It's because he takes every face he sees and breaks it into simple forms... then for some reason he remembers them without trying. then from that he can sit and draw anyone he has "on file"... it's crazy.
