Paint Shop Pro vs. Photoshop. What do u recommend?

I am looking into getting buying a copy of Photoshop. I would like to know if it is better than Paint Shop Pro.

Photoshop is better.
Even if Paintshop is similar to Photoshop, still some drawbacks there. Photoshop is very good in making websites, print media designs etc.

To be clear, in this versus, we´re putting Mike Tyson in front of a 4 year old kid.
Of course, Tyson is Photoshop.

I like to use Photoshop AND Paintshop sometimes, I like Photoshop more but both tools together are sometimes pretty nice..

Aside from Photoshop being a much more robust piece of software, it's also the industry standard... If you ever plan on working with other designers, or doing work where you have to hand over the source, then Photoshop is a shoo-in.

GIMP isn't PhotoShop but it's free!

well my PS is free too but that's a different story and I don't use it to make a living.

I've used Paint Shop Pro for years, as well as Photo Shop. Photo Shop is good for editing my digital pics to send to the lab, but I very much prefer Paint Shop Pro for creating my webpage graphics and images.

This is a situation that you get what you pay for. PSP runs for $75-100, photoshop runs for $550-600.

PSP is a good entry level graphic program, there is nothing wrong with it. However if you want to step up to the next level with your designs then you have to go with photoshop. It is a much more powerful software. Anyone who tells you different simply doesn't know how to use it to its full potential. With that in mind there is also a lot more learning involved with using photoshop, it is not something you are just going to open up and master in a week, or a year for that matter. It takes time and lots of practice

So just buy according to your needs. If you are just wanting to play around with some simple graphics, maybe do basic editing on a photo, go ahead and go with PSP. If you want to do more advance designs and profesional level medias, then your only real option is photoshop

Right on Greg! - I started out many many years ago on PSP because it was the best option (lol, that's a while ago ;p) - As a professional though there is no option really, apart from the versatility of Photoshop and all the plugIns and brushes and filters available from third party suppliers it also works with so many other mainstream products. This should get a whole lot more obvious now as well with the Macromedia/Adobe partnership on the next generation of both software suites.
