HOW DO I FADE AN IMAGE INTO ANOTHER??

I've recently downloaded a program which enables you to edit/create images -'faststone image viewer' .But i've no idea how to fade an image in the background of another-(the reason i downloaded). DOES ANY1 NO HOW??

There's plenty of tutorials on basic image manipulation. Google is your friend.
