I and all my design staff find Photoshop easier to work with as well (more time being creative and less time fighting with the software), but at some point in the process, professional logo design will require using software like Illustrator. I use Illustrator to live-trace what I have created in Photoshop. We have yet to be able to make Photoshop create proper vector files. Clients should be provided proper vector files.
We may not be able to do it this way for long though. I'm finding that Illustrator on my 64-bit PCs does not live trace the Photoshop files well at all. We have to go to our one remaining 32-bit machine running CS4 to get a good trace. When that machine is retired, we may have to switch to a new design software suite.

Don't use photoshop. If you can't afford Illustrator as logoonlinepros suggested go with inkscape. Print is not necessarily "quality" as mentioned to before, but rather color. CMYK vs RBG

You can use Photoshop, it's also a very good program. I recommend using Adobe Illustrator for logos as well.

Why? Are you bored with illustrator and Photoshop? I used CS5 extended and I never get bored learning something new with this software. For me it’s a monster program. Free online "logo creation" or "logo generator" programs are not bad but they are really do not allow much freedom for editing or they are very limited for creativity. I agree to Steave1987. Did you try CorelDraw? CorelDraw is competitive vector graphics creation software.

Photoshop is the best editor or best scratch digital graphics maker. The only thing between you have good graphics is to understand how the tools work. Though, you can use another Adobe software "Illustrator". These two combined will give you best of graphics.
Though, imagination is important to make graphics not the actual application.

It makes the most sense to use Illustrator (or Inkscape, which I actually like quite a bit, and is pretty easy to use). I am by far more comfortable in photoshop, so the few logos I have done I have done there -- I just make them very large so that if I need a higher res version, I have it. I have also thought of designing the logo in photoshop (again, because I am more proficient in that program and can get my thoughts out quickly), and then move to illustrator for the final version.

According to me, Photoshop is a really a very nice program for designing a logo in effective way. It's true fact that many other software are also available at online for designing a logos but photoshop is a much better than other all logo designing software.

Depends on the type of logo. For a clean corporate logo Illustrator is the best choice hands down. If going for a more web 2.0 effect of grunge logo Photoshop is easier to use for the effects needed.

Photoshop CS5 is very helpful in creating unique and fascinating logos. You can create different file format on it plus it is very convenient to use.
