Photoshop can do this. You can easily embed a watermark and set opacity level.

I think it can be done server side using some image management tools. That way there is no permanent alteration of your image.
For sure PS and just about any other image program can handle the task.

Adobe photoshop is the best for any image editing purpose. I'm using it since 2005 and its really awesome. You can set transparency, how much you need. So my suggestion is Adobe photoshop.

In my opinion the Adobe photoshop is an excellent image resolution software that truly increases electronic cameras results. It is considered a modern standard in document image resolution. You can try it. I have been also using Adobe photoshop for last 3 months.

Are you trying to watermark a bunch of images in Bulk or just one at a time?

When I edit an image, I generally just add a new layer in PS and then take its opacity down, so its almost not visible, but still works as a watermark making sure the image can't be saved and used by everyone else.

The simplest and the most reliable way is to use Adobe Photoshop. And, of course, some server and client-side scripts may be helpful as well.

Other adobe software beside Photoshop can do such as well. You can do it through Flash, Fireworks or adobe Illustrator and other similar programs.

I would just use Photoshop. Use the text tool and type your watermark using a BOLD white font. Then lower the opacity to make it more see-through.

I don't bother wasting money on other watermark software. Photoshop does it easily. Just enter your image or text and decrease the opacity slightly.
I heard there is a repair tool that is capable of removing the watermark though. It is harder if you make it more complex though.
