Cd Insert

I've been asked by my friend to design the cd insert for his bands up and coming debut cd. There will initially be 1,000 copies made.

I've never done any cd work before, so I have a question for those who have: what's the general size for a cd insert?

For the front insert, basically just make it a square shape as big as you like and at 300dpi. The printers can shrink it down easily.

Make it huge, as long as the aspect ratio is correct according to the dimensions (for example - if it's to be printed at 2.5 x 3.5 then making it at 10 x 14 is fine)

Ask the CD/Printer for a template and/or specs. I use a few different vendors to duplicate my DVD/CD-ROM and other media and they all seem to have different requirements on how to submit the artwork.

Some want PDF, others want Quark/Illustrator, other want color seperated artwork. While 300 DPI is typically the best way to go. I've ran into some duplicators that cannot use anything higher than 150 DPI.
