I remember the last one. The hypoteneuse is not straight. If you calculate the angles in the red and green triangles, you'll see that they are not congruent. The upper triangle has a concave curve and the lower one has a convex curve - the convex "uses up the space" of the so-called missing square.
The first two are just optical illusions.

well... if that's the case I don't see it. I look at the two lines and it all looks too straight.
maybe I need to hunt this down online... someone has to be explaining it with photos or something.

Juggo, in the lower example, look at the green triangle. It has a hypoteneuse that crosses exactly 2 units higher and 5 units to the right. On the red triangle, trace 5 across and 2 up and you'll see it misses the mark. And since it goes below the mark the hypoteneuse is slightly convex, making the difference.

I failed math.
My thing here is the green and the red are both used once per setup. They are not being replaced. Even though things are concaved & convexed, they do so in both images, not one way in one and the other in the other...
I guess that's what confuses me.

ahhh... i got you now. thanks.
it depends on the start and ends points, the top of one and the bottom of the other either make a curve out or a curve in depending on the order they are in.
nice. thanks.

They're just optical illusions. Not much to explain, really... Our brain fills in some false info.

Here's sort of an explanation as to why they work..
