Uploading PSD File

Hello all. Thanks in advance for any possible help. I am a newbie and have received a psd template from a friend who doesn’t really know what it is.
I can edit the template in Photoshop with no problem.
My question is how do I upload this.
Do I upload this? (the psd file?)
I tried putting it into dream weaver it won’t open.
When I have the site up do I have to put the pages im working on back into Photoshop to edit the text?
I really don’t understand can someone help me. Thank you very much!

Dreamweaver does recognize .psd files. You need to take this into fireworks and slice it then export it to dreamweaver. Or you can slice right in Photoshop then export the slices to a folder and have DW open up your final page and edit it. I would do it in Fireworks for more control and graphic optimization. I nice tip though is Fireworks 8 can open .psd files now and you can do your work flow from PS>FW>DW and its nice and smooth.

Hey adam (or anyone who can answer this),
is there any way to control the HTML output that dreamweaver/fireworks gives after slicing the file? For example make it very CSS heavy and use divs/spans instead of tables, etc. Is it possible?

you can just put out html without images in fireworks then in DW just use nothing but css. Or find the tutorials around the net to build pure css layout inside of dreamweaver. To be honest, I myself have not done any pure css layout yet. I am not really in any rush, I am still perfecting many other things and with more and more cable modems popping up every day I don't target 56K modems anymore. There's a lot to be said about css and I am a big supporter, just know your reasons for doing a pure css layout before you jump in.
