That font would be very easy to replace without having the psd, because of the solid background, wouldn't you think Juggo?

my post was supposed to say "shouldn't"... and that was supposed to be my point... that it should be easy.

yeah... that's what I thought..
Select the text with the rectangular marquee tool, edit/fill with black, select/deselect. If the "auto select layer" box is checked, select the text tool, choose a font, and start typing the new font. If the "auto select layer" box isn't checked, either check it, or click "create new layer" at the bottom of the layers palette, then select the text tool, choose a font, and start typing the new font. Another way to create a new layer is, layer/new/layer.

well... not that easy.
he has some text over a little bit of fade out... need to do a little reconstruction or fade out on the middle section as well as some covering. I would start by adding a new layer on top of that one... then filling the layer black. then adding a mask to that layer, fill it black... then use a white brush to go over only the text to create a new black over it.
then after that I would flatten the image (which if you have enough history states enabled you can back up if you need to), but flatten the image and check it in brightness/contrast for flaws in my black... just turning the contrast up to make sure none of my new black is brighter or darker than the old black.
if you don't do that your bound to have someone still see the block that you filled in on your way, because different monitors see things different than others... you have to consider the worst, even for something as small as this... or you might be paying for it later.
then... pick a new font and have at adding the text again.
and learn to save psds... if you don't have room, best buy (or one of the box store ads) is running a 160 gig hd for $80 after rebates... buy it and install it... it pays to save psds.

Very good info here... I brought it in to PS and examined it and....imo, and in this case, I think he could easily get away with just a tight selection and fill, but I do hear what you're saying here, and the info you have shared is priceless, and I'm going to be copying it for referrence, I'm not familiar with masking at all and need to start using it... thanks for that Juggo ...

once you learn masking, you'll wonder why you did all the things the way you used to... and you'll most likely never touch the eraser tool again.

i like masking however it depends on what i want to do.. if i know i wont need it again i will just go ahead and erase.. yet when I do more advanced stuff like editing shadows and stuff it is definitely alot easier in long run to use masking :0
