I just came across this:

TechSmith is now giving away retail editions of SnagIt screen capture software for free - no strings attached.
|
http://www.labnol.org/software/downl...l-number/1841/
It's not the latest version, however, you can upgrade it for half the regular price.
Hope this is handy...

SnagIt has no peers.....believe me.
It is ridiculously cheap for the amazing aray of functions it performs.
It's reliable, stable, innovative.
In fact we couldnt function without it, and we are graphic designers. It's an absolute godsend. The best piece of Software we ever bought.
And no...I dont work for TechSmith....lol.

Techsmith has a free program out now that I actually like more than snagit that is called Jing, it is sort of geared for desktop video capture, but does screenshots just fine

Print Screen key -> Start -> Run - > mspaint [enter] -> Ctrl + V -> Ctrl + S -> choose a name -> select JPEG from the list (Vista's Paint saves directly in JPEG). That's all.

You're done! ... you can now use Shift-Print Screen and capture any video playback frame.

I have to admit that screen capture is really complicated if you just want to capture screen of vide, game and so on. The better idea is to have professional screen capture software.

For the more technical captures, I like to use Corel's Capture Util (never let me down yet!)
